Nashville’s DigSin label celebrates the release of albums from two of its key artists on Monday (September 8) with a live showcase at The Social in Great Portland Street, London. W1W.
The show is headlined by quirky Swedish pop trio Like Swimming, comprising of Claes Carlström on vocals and guitar, Ida Hedene on vocals and keys and Petter Wesslander on drums. The band’s debut album ‘Structures’, recorded in a log cabin north of Stockkholm, features their breakthrough single from last year‘Go Buffalo’ , which gained them plaudits from the likes of MTV Buzzworthy, USA Today and Rockmafia, as well as current single ”A Room of Her Own’.
Having played extensively in the US, including appearances at the CMJ Music Week in NYC and Culture Collide Festival in LA, this will be the first time a British audience has witnessed Like Swimming’s unique sound – imagine MGMT ‘s sparkly pop eccentricities overtaken by The Cardigans – in the live arena.
Support comes from LA-based country/folk chanteuse Lauren Shera, whose tender sound is showcased on her second full length LP ‘Gold and Rust’, also out next week. Previously sharing stages with big names such as Billy Bragg, Shawn Colvin and Ray LaMontagne and collaborated with Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses and Abigail Washburn, she also recently came to the attention of Ben Lovett of Mumford and Sons, who picked her to play the first US tour staged by his label/promoters Communion.
DigSin itself has gained many column inches in the US, where the likes of Rolling Stone and Time Magazine have hailed its innovative financial model of giving music away for free to subscribers rather than charging as a revolution that could turn the music industry on its head.
In a celebration of the night, Digsin will be hosting a Soho Radio takeover 2-4pm on the day. tune in here.
