Announced at a launch at Red Bull Studios London yesterday, the Association of Independent Music has revealed the nominees for the 4th annual AIM Independent Music Awards. Revealed by Xfm’s Danielle Perry and Radio 1’s DJ Target, the list highlights the diversity and creative talent of independent music in 2014.
London Grammar lead the way with 4 nominations including ‘Best Live Act’ and ‘Independent Breakthrough of The Year’ while Arctic Monkeys, Bonobo, Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip, FKA Twigs, Future Islands and tUnE-yArDs all receive 2 nods. A unique not-for-profit creative space, Red Bull Studios London is known for its work supporting the music industry, and proved a perfect backdrop for this year’s nominees launch.
The coveted Independent Label Of The Year award will be contested by Because Music, Domino, Fearless Records, Hospital Records, Ninja Tune and Secretly Group. Following in their footsteps, Hyperdub, Kissability, Marshall Teller Records, National Anthem and Sonic Cathedral will battle it out for the Best Small Label award.
Once again, the nominations honour the full spectrum of independent music in 2014, as nominees for Best ‘Difficult’ Second Album including Anna Calvi, Ben Watt, Blood Orange, The Pretty Reckless and Withered Hand stand side-by-side with those nominated for the Independent Breakthrough of The Year, Courtney Barnett, Future Islands, London Grammar, Sohn and Young Fathers.
