The Joy Formidable have announced a new track ‘Yn Rhydiau’r Afon’ alongside their new Singles Club “Aruthrol”; a series of limited edition vinyl releases that sees them sharing a double A side with a collection of Welsh artists.
The band have invited some of the Welsh music-makers they most admire to feature on the flipsides: “They’re double A-sides,” says Rhydian Dafydd, with emphasis. “Not an A-side and a B-side. Both sides have equal importance.” The first release will have TJF‘s ‘Yn Rhydiau’r Afon’ on one side, and COLORAMA on the other with ‘Forget Tomorrow’
“We’ve been talking about making a Welsh record for a long time, but we’ve been busy touring.” says Ritzy Bryan “We had a few weeks back home over Christmas and that became the perfect time to set everything up, among all the memories of being back home where the band started.”
Despite hundreds of tour dates across the United States and mainland Europe the band have had infrequent opportunity to play in their home country. This makes the upcoming shows, at Gwyl Gardd Goll, Anglesey on Saturday, 26th July and The Globe in Cardiff for Sŵn on Sunday, 27th July 2014 an exciting and emotional prospect for the band.
“There’s some great music coming out of Wales,” adds Ritzy. “We wanted to celebrate that, and the collaborative aspect of a split-single appeals to us, that bands can come together, design a release, and share each other’s fanbase and resources.”
