Ellen and the Escapades are back. Just over two years since the release of their début long player All the Crooked Scenes, and having been working on its follow-up for the past eight months, the Leeds quintet have now re-emerged from the studio with news of their new single ‘Lost Cause’.
As a harbinger for the new album, ‘Lost Cause’ is a bold statement of intent. It announces the arrival of a much bigger, more confident Ellen and the Escapades’ sound; a band who have been revitalised by the passage of time.
Produced by Tristan Ivemy – a man whose past credits include Frank Turner and The Holloways – the spirited musical euphoria of ‘Lost Cause’ is at odds with the apparent hopelessness of the song’s title. Propelled along by a driving rhythm and carried even further forward by the momentum of soaring guitars and piano, the unmistakeable timbre of Ellen Smith’s voice is then delicately woven into the very fabric of the song. This is the sound of a band who are now coming of age.
‘Lost Cause’ will be available on 2nd June 2014 by digital download only. It can be pre-ordered here
