The behemoth that is Black Moth is set to return. Almost a year after the release of ‘Savage Dancer’/’Tree of Woe’ – a limited edition, double A sided single for Too Pure’s subscription record club – the Leeds five-piece are back with not only a brand new track but also a series of live shows.
‘Tumbleweave’, which will eventually appear on an upcoming Record Store Day compilation from their label New Heavy Sounds, occupies familiar Black Moth territory. It is an ominous land, shrouded in darkness and inhabited by huge beasts of burden, carrying with them across this inhospitable terrain the heavy loads of unquenchable guitars and relentless rhythm. Trapped somewhere between the emotional sophistication of Grace Slick and Lisa Kekaula’s vituperative scream, Harriet Bevan’s voice adds a human element to an otherwise bleak world.
‘Tumbleweave’ serves as the harbinger for Black Moth’s second album later on this year. As with its predecessor, it will again be produced by the Bad Seeds’ drummer, gentleman Jim Sclavunos and if this foretaste is any indicator it should be proof positive that the darkest hour is just before the dawn.
In anticipation of this, Black Mouth set out later this month for sixteen live shows across the United Kingdom and Europe with Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats. As a prelude to the UK leg of this tour, though, the band have just announced that they will be playing a hometown gig at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on Tuesday 15th April (rescheduled from the original date to accommodate the Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats’ tour). Promoted by Vintage Kickball, Black Moth will be supported in Leeds by Bermondsey’s very own metal monsters, Antlered Man. Prepare to let your ears bleed.
New Heavy Sounds will be giving away 50 free copies of New Heavy Sounds Volume 3 to the first 50 people at the Brudenell show. It features a taster track from the band’s forthcoming release, alongside a track from Antlered Man. Tickets can be bought here:
