LA duo In the Valley Below is Angela Gail and Jeffrey Jacob. They are another perfect example of a male-female duo juxtaposition that works, with Gail on bass duties and Jacob on guitar duties. Their début ‘Stand Up’ is a portentous poppy call-to-arms. It has an exhortative chorus led by rhythmic war drums and strong ’80s-flavoured synths. Emphasising an almost Buckingham-Nicks-esque rapport (they also kind of dress like them) through the band’s two components’ distinctive voices, the track has an instant catchiness which will undoubtedly catch the attention of a mainstream audience. Sonically, ‘Stand Up’ could be also compared to the grandiose and majestic ‘Farewell to the Fairground’, from White Lies‘ début To Lose my Life, who incidentally ItVB will be supporting for their UK tour in December.
