Bummer Album of the Week: Wheatus – The Valentine LP

Valentine
We all have songs we have lost it to then been embarrassed because of the song itself haven’t we? ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ is one such song, admit it – it was a great tune with a strong melody, loads of power chords and a chorus to rip you out of your seat. Wheatus were the band and they did pretty much fuck all else of any note, other than covering an Erasure song. Well here’s the news – the band are still going, despite their lack of ability. The latest album is ‘The Valentine LP’ and contains absolutely none of the aforementioned ingredients that endeared you to that song. A more thoroughly worthless and tuneless album I haven’t come across in some time – Bummer Album of the Week.

[Rating:1]

  1. i saw them live last night. they were bursting with ability and utterly brilliant.
you clearly know nothing and i will disregard your opinion.

  2. What a bummer of a review. Didn’t really review much did you? I thought the Valentine LP was fantastic, brimming with clever lyrics and catchy tunes. I wonder whether you’ve even listened to their other releases: ‘Suck Fony’ and ‘TooSoonMonsoon’. Seems you’re just comparing this release to their older work and complaining that it doesn’t sound the same.

  3. Utter drivel this review. Where did this “reviewer” learn to write? At cooking school? Didnt even mention one song on the album, what a feeble attempt at reviewing something. Why do music critics like Elvis Costello? Cause they look like Elvis Costello.

    1. The series entitled ‘Bummer Albums’ wasn’t intended to be an in-depth review of records though, it was intended to be a brief review of an album the writer disliked. Check others in the series. Disagree if you like, it’s all subjective, haven’t heard the album myself. But the series is over now.
