As the shape of things to come from Lanterns, the album’s second single ‘Easy’ is precisely that; it is easy on the ear and even easier on the soul. It is a clear, effortless and accessible modern musical arrangement, ever so carefully distilled into two hundred and forty perfect seconds. The percolation of the melody, a hypnotic marriage of electronica and voice, is deceptively simple. It is then joined by a laconic handclap, Rafiq Bhatia’s spectral guitar and the deepest rumble of Steven Temme’s saxophones, as new meets old. If only everything in life were this easy.
