Initial confusion with Scots outfit Paws not withstanding, PAWWS (note the extra W) aka the moniker of Lucy Taylor, delivers a shudderingly fantastic slither of dexterous soulful electro with ‘Time To Say Goodbye’ her début ASL Records single.
With a sublime affecting vocal range that quivers in whispy mid falsetto somewhere between Kate Bush‘s artfulness, Alison Goldfrapp‘s skill and Kylie‘s playfulness and a ultra sleek backing that’s prodding synths, clicks and productional sweeps whisks your ears away and into escape. But it’s Lucy swooping, imploring vocal performance that is centre stage on this brilliantly brooding break up song that would be just as home swaying on the dancefloor as it would be soundtracking the drowning of ones heartbroken sorrows, which after all is what the best disco tracks of the 1970s and ’80s, infused with a magical effortless soul, used to do. Meanwhile the video is four-square on Lucy, “wandering the scenic public parks, we are blanketed by the the sun-filled sky and richly coloured scenery as the visuals simultaneously offer a vibrant reflection of the bright and warm sounds at the soul of the track.” Marvellously promising and a highly recommended track of the day.
