Brooklyn based sister duo CHAOS CHAOS (Asy and Chloe were formerly an exceedingly young duo called SMOOSH) are now gearing up for their debut album release in October this year. As a precursor they’re releasing An EP titled ‘S; on March 11th, on Parity (PAR002). The sumptuous lead track My Hands, shows the duo in a more sultry playful light than their nascent works, recorded with Matt Tong of Bloc Party their blend of refreshingly live organic instrumentals and synth loops is threaded with entangled almost Parisian disco -pop harmonies buzzing squelches and euphoric harmonies that spiral like shooting stars in night skies, stream or watch the video below, I hope this sends you into the weekend with a skip in your step!

The duo’s five song EP branches out in different directions stylistically. Chloe: “The EP was influenced by NPR, The Moth, and random radio stations we’d flip through.” Asy adds: “The EP is very personal because this is a time in our lives where we’ve decided to take bigger risks and in order to do that you have to become very vulnerable.”
As Smoosh, Asy and Chloe put out three full-length albums. Their debut She Like Electric was released in 2004 when Asy was 12 years old and Chloe was only 10. Over the years the band toured with Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie, Sleater-Kinney, The Go Team!, Bloc Party, Mates Of State, Jimmy Eat World, Cat Power, Nada Surf, The Eels and Sufjan Stevens, among others. The band also performed on Yo Gabba Gabba and Jimmy Kimmel Live.
In 2012, the two decided it was time for a change and formed CHAOS CHAOS.The songs on ‘S’ were recorded with producer Nathan Rosenberg at The Doghouse Studios in Brooklyn, except for ‘Winner’, which was recorded with Matt Tong of Bloc Party. The duo launched a Kickstarter project to fund the EP, featuring the trash drum kit they used as well as artwork created by the band. The project reached its target within the first day.
“I think we are having the most fun making this EP because we have never approached music this way before. The whole process feels like an adventure. It will also be very exciting to bring this EP to a live setting (which will involve the Toys R Us Big Piano, a trash drum kit and vocal processors)”.
CHAOS CHAOS will release their debut album this autumn, when they will tour the UK. Meanwhile they play SXSW 2013.
