Kurt Vile has shared the opening track ‘Wakin on a Pretty Day’ from his forthcoming new album Wakin on a Pretty Daze due for release 9th April on Matador. Details of the album were released on Matadors website with news of a tour in April and May including performances at Coachella, Primavera and sole UK date at Field Day festival.
‘Wakin on a Pretty Day’ invites Kurt Vile fans to continue creating their unique expanding worlds, started and built upon with every listen to each of the previously released 4 albums. The 9 minute landscape of layered guitars, explored melodies and soft lo-fi vocals doesn’t so much take you on a journey as accompany you as you bask in escapism. Happy to sit and listen to 9 minutes more than once, this release today is an extremely good indication to the remainder of the unheard album.
Released alongside ‘Wakin on a Pretty Day’ and album news is some documentary footage of street artist Stephen Powers, aka ESPO, creating his interpretation of Vile’s lyrics as a mural alongside Philadelphia’s inner-city train line. The street art will appear as the front cover.
