Velcro Hooks have tumbled out of what is quickly becoming evident as a buzzingly high quality music scene in Bristol. Indeed, they are signed to Howling Owl, the local label who proved they can make a national mark when they impressively staged a one night take-over of Shoreditch’s Old Blue Last a few weeks ago.
There’s a back story, as there always is. In this case, it’s got a nice ring, about Howling Owl picking them up after only their third gig, and about how the band have made their bones playing live, anywhere and everywhere – living rooms, parties, wherever – rather then hiding themselves away in a box room with a laptop.
They’ve got their ‘Gymnophoria‘ EP out this week that’s garnering praise all over the place; the limited run 10″ vinyl sold out on pre-order. Our firm opinion is that the standout is this excellent track ‘Girlfren‘ which sounds like the bastard son of Blur and the Beastie Boys. The video helps, simple and very cleverly focusing on something that’s been a LONG TIME COMING and is going to explode in 3,2,1…(cue guitar madness).
…and just because you’re worth it, here’s another track from the EP to be getting on with…
