This is the first ‘official’ release in nearly three years for Gospel Gossip, so it’s a relief to find they are still on form and then some. Lead track ‘Atlantic Blue’ pulls in with a beguiling splash of guitars and drums before Sarah Nienaber’s vox come calling desolately from some phone booth in a chilly mid-western night. On this, they’re still very much still wearing their their dream / nu-gaze boots of yore, although middle track ‘Behind’ has more of a classic rock tinge to it. They made a huge first impression back in 2009 with ‘Sippy Cup’ and haven’t put much of a foot wrong since.
The group, a three-piece, operate in what looks from over here like a fervent music scene in and around Minneapolis, and part of the lack of urgency in releases is their diverse interests in other bands, all of which seem to co-exist and intertwine effortlessly.
The record is a 200 limited edition 7″, out in November. Of course it’s an import, but with postage to the UK it still ain’t too desperate, less than a tenner, so if the stream whets your appetite…
