Brighton has never fallen short when it comes to talent to have an impact on the
music scene. Bat For Lashes, British Sea Power and The Maccabees are just a few examples of bands that have been produced by the seaside town.

Whether there’s something in the seaside air will just have to remain the subject of speculation, but what can be said for sure is the town is not short of new musical talent, at least in the form of four piece; The New Union.

It doesn’t take long to fall into the charm of the energetic and self-assured debut
single, ‘Without You’, with its tight, fundamentally pop sensibilities grabbing you= from the outset.

Taking on board the classic formulation of woeful lyrics of teenage angst and disguising them behind a combination of fast flowing guitar riffs, sharp drum solos, and chorus you can latch onto, that so often embodies pop/dance records, ‘Without You’ is one of those that will remain in your head for the rest of the day.

It’s a combination of sleek production, courtesy of Ian Dowling (Adele, Temper Trap and Kasabian), as well as the togetherness of a band that’s only been playing together for 18 months, that makes The New Union onto a winner.

[Rating:4]

The New Union’s debut single, ‘Without You’ is available on limited 7” vinyl and for
