Showing my age again, I’m prepared to own up to the fact that I loved ZZ Top when they were good. ‘La Grange’ remains a classic song and I bought the ‘Fandango’ album on vinyl way back then. After that album, they started to slowly creep away from rock towards pop, cumulating in the ‘Eliminator’ album in 1983. They didn’t stop there though, oh no, for their fifteenth album, ‘La Futura’ comes out next week. This time, they profess to have returned to “the directness of our early stuff”. Sadly, that means just churning out the same guitar riffs from over thirty years ago but with new titles and they’ve even stolen one from AC/DC. Bummer!
