Track Of The Day #50: The Primitives – Turn Off The Moon

primsechoes

At the tail-end of the eighties, when everything was going grunge or dance crossover, there was a band called The Primitives who insisted on playing indie pop. They had a wondrous single called ‘Crash’ that hit the heady heights of number five, followed by a handful of lesser hits that few will know of. Well, eighteen years after disbanding, the band reformed in 2009. An EP came out last year and a couple of weeks ago a brand new album. As stubborn as ever, they’re still playing sixties bouncy pop. The album is ‘Echoes And Rhymes’ and it’s a bundle of cover versions of somewhat obscure songs from the sixties. The attached was the single off the album and was originally recorded by Sue Lyon, who movie buffs will know from Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Lolita’. Enough trivia, press play.
