Film soundtracks are generally pretty naff aren’t they? Most of the tracks don’t feature in the film itself, merely being “inspired by”, then you realise some of them were originally recorded before the film was even conceived. Cashing in I call it. There are always exceptions of course and today’s exhibit comes from one such artefact. The film is ‘The Avengers’ and will probably be nothing more than a momentary distraction from reality. The soundtrack is ‘Avengers Assemble’, which is a collection of grunge, nu metal, a rubbish Kasabian track and the attached. Rise Against are this century’s best punk band for me, with six sterling albums to their trail. This track was indeed recorded specifically for the soundtrack, but ‘inspired’ by it? Doubtful!
