Zebra And Snake, aka Tapio and Matti, are two friends who unite in gloriously warm, electronic technicolour. Having won UK fans last autumn, the duo are now set to release their first EP on February 27th 2012, preceding the album “Healing Music”, to be released in spring.
The new EP features four tracks from Healing Music, opening with “Sweetest Treasure”; its skittish, dappled beats and propelling synth rhythms, providing a blueprint for Zebra & Snakes atmospheric melodies.Sweetest Treasure will be given the re-mix treatment by a raft of talent including Dam Mantle, Kiki, Dreamtrak, Shift-Static, Steesh and Napoleon IIIrd. Originally from Alajärvi in Finland – a town “so small that everyone knows each-other” – the pair had been long time friends but never musical collaborators. Matti had a self-diagnosed “synthesizer fetish” whilst Tapio, whose Lutheran background meant classical music soundtracked his childhood, the duo only started collaborating when they both moved to Helsinki.
Their debut album Healing Music due for release in April is fuelled by a shared love of Fleetwood Mac, krautrock and ambient electronics. A classic and timeless record it reflects their shared inspirations, namely their home country’s landscape and surroundings.
