I’m keeping it hard-edged again today with Enter Shikari. Back in 2006, when I first heard ‘Mothership’ I had that rare sensation of a band who were actually different. Not quite a ‘Teen Spirit tingle’ but an inclination of a band who were prepared to push the boundaries. Mixing hardcore with rap and dance is a dangerous experiment but they pulled it off and the debut album followed through nicely. Then in 2009 ‘Common Dreads’ came along and the band were getting a tad less ugly and, whilst it was a good album, it wasn’t a direction I felt suited them. Just out then is album number three, ‘A Flash Flood Of Colour’ and they are becoming The Streets! Perhaps a dark shadow on the rest of the current releases in that it is still better than most. It won’t trouble my year-end lists but ‘Constellations’ closes the album and shows what maybe should have come before it. That was bloody miserable wasn’t it?!
