Brighton outfit Shrag release their new single “Tendons In the Night” this week watch the video below, it’s just in time for their co-headline tour with Tunabunny (who also share the other side of the split-single) which starts at the end of this week.
Shrag describe the song as “a voyeuristic ode to the pursuit of gymnastic perfection, but we doubt very much it will be sanctioned by the IOC.”Using that as the inspiration for the video, director James Sharpe (Bearsuit, Darren Hayman) sets the scene featuring a female gymnast (played by Vicki Heathcote) attending a daunting audition in front of some snooty judges (played by Shrag). After running through her routine she realises the judges want something more. Initially she’s not willing to sell out but finds herself adjusting her routine from athletic precision to a sexy dance number and thereby impressing the vouyeristic judges. The video concludes with the gymnast breaking down in self-loathing and lashing out at the judges.
Shrag’s hotly anticipated third album Canines will be released in May via Fortuna POP! and WIAIWYA. It follows 2009’s self-titled debut album, and 2010’s Life! Death! Prizes!, which met critical acclaim from Uncut, Pitchfork, The Sunday Times and The Quietus. The band have performed in New York at the CMJ Music Marathon, played a scene stealing performance at Indietracks Festival, and have done three sessions for BBC6’s Marc Riley, as well as one recorded at London’s prestigious Maida Vale Studios for Radio One.
Tunabunny hail from Athens, GA and have just released their arrestingly exciting second LP Minima Moralia on happyhappybirthdaytome records.
