Supposedly based in Milwaukee, Coo Woo are all sorts of an enigma. The act’s BandCamp purport they’re influenced by “Blackpool Amusements” and “Huddersfield”; their internet presence is almost non-existent; their name confusingly pronounced “Cool World”. Anyone might think they were made up, and if it weren’t for their damn good surf shoegaze, God Is in the TV would ignore them to save ourselves a journalistic headache.
But they must be noted – their calypso-pop demands it. The heady innocence of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart filters through on “Stay Forever”, a track eagerly spread amongst bloggers in November 2011. The stand-alone song runs headfirst at its audience, hand in hand with the Love Exposure 0001 EP, a punchier affair that spits Amanda Knox and Los Campesinos! in Kip Berman’s eye.
