Iceland-born, Denmark-raised indie-pop maestro DAD ROCKS! has released a second single from his brilliant debut album “Mount Modern”.
First released in late 2011 on UK indie label Big Scary Monsters, “Battle Hymn Of The Fox Father” is the is the album’s longest track and it’s centrepiece, backed here with an excellent Snow Kite remix.
“Mount Modern” has attracted much attention to it’s creator, 26-year-old father of two Snævar Njáll Albertsson, and deservedly so; it’s a strikingly complete release for a debut, bringing to mind mercurial talents such as Mark Linkous and Sufjan Stevens. Nestled inside it’s eleven beautiful songs is a tangible sense of domesticity and innocence, but also a sense of being embattled by modern life. Childhood and parenthood are never far from the subject matter: “Since becoming a dad I’ve seen the world from a totally different perspective,” says Albertsson. “The innocence probably comes from that – not just looking as yourself, but also at challenges your children are going to face.”
“Battle Hymn…” is a special song, it’s spell-binding melody lit up by intricate arrangements and lyrics with a poetic cadence and heartfelt delivery. Albertsson is a striking new talent to watch, with a very bright future ahead.
