19 year old Singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni releases her debut EP ‘Black Currents’ on the January 30th. Yesterday she released the scenic video for her track ‘The Fog’ watch it below!
Written by Rachel and produced by Communion’s Ian Grimble – who has just finished adding the vital touches to the Benjamin Francis Leftwich LP – ‘Black Currents’ launches Rachel onto to the new music scene with much aplomb and will establish her as one of the key acts to look out for in 2012.
A talented instrumentalist, Rachel puts her own, unique spin on a time-honoured genre, reinforcing her songs with a tough outer shell but all the while imbuing them with splashes of humour.
There’s ‘Breathe Easy’ – a song built on a brave, a cappella backbone and fleshed out with a forthright strings and keys section – the dynamic ‘Black Current’ which rises and falls with an intoxicating swoon – and ‘Song To a Fox’ – a wintry hymn sculpted from haunting, spacious cries. That’s not forgetting lead track ‘The Fog’, which has been chosen as the EP’s first single namely for its larger-than-life chorus, delicately balanced timbre and truly captivating vocals.
