London Singer Songwriter L.A. Salami played and intimate and subdued set last Wednesday at the Barfly, Camden, opening up for The Duke Spirit. His songs of love and love lost, of recessionary dead jobs and the madness of living in the capital, evoked the spirit of Leonard Cohen and Dylan. With a bitterseet optimism, his music is composed with just the bare bones of simple chord structures and harmonica so as to emphasise the lyrics, in fact it does seem as times more musical poetry than anything else. But this is no bad thing.
A thoughtful musician and wordsmith, one to watch. He’s due to have an EP out later this year, though he told the crowd it would have 35 songs on it… so maybe a very large EP then.
