London ‘bedroom pop’ duo Matt Poile and Alex Morris, better known as Crushed Beaks, are set to release their debut single proper through the Too Pure Singles Club on November 21st in the form of ‘Close-Ups/Sun Dogs’. The latter is available to stream now before the single’s official release.

Sun Dogs by Crushed Beaks

Having formed in 2010 through a shared love of Italian horror films, Crushed Beaks set about putting their fuzzy wall of melodic noise to record. Their mixture of relentless, pounding drums and salacious, swirling melodies found the two creating a live force to be reckoned with and a slew of demos that caught the ear of many a tastemaker on their very upload.

Their first single proper sees the duo take the step into different surroundings to their DIY recording norm. Whilst the guitars were kept in their natural Wendy House environment, the drums were taken to New Cross’ Zion Chapel where they were given the somehow ghostly strength the songs so demanded. ‘Sun Dogs’, the first track to emerge from the sessions, finds the two at arguably their most romantically inclined to date. With a step up in terms of production from their bedroom beginnings, ‘Sun Dogs’ strides in on a haze of shredded guitars and driving drum beats, as Poile’s vocals play the wistful apparition amongst the melee. As a squeal of feedback beckons in the song’s cathartic, triumphant ending, there’s no doubting that Crushed Beaks confidence has grown magnificently, and is set to carry on further beyond their humble beginnings.
