If you listen to Radio One you’ll probably be familiar with Newcastle born pop Queen in waiting Beth Jeans Houghton. Though she’s been performing since 2009, the limelight has finally caught up with Houghton. Since the release of her lead demo “Dodecahedron” at the beginning of the year, the new hopeful has attracted the attention of every DJ under the sun, and it doesn’t look likely that her rampage through popular culture will stop there. The song was written while on an extended road trip around America, and is quintessential left field British pop, unsurprisingly leading to rave review.
New material remains allusive, but that’s about to change. To celebrate her deserved success Houghton plans to release a limited edition EP, containing six tracks that won’t feature on her forthcoming album, due out this Autumn via Mute Records. More details will be announced soon.
Together with her band The Hooves of Destiny, Houghton will play a variety of gigs this summer.
