Being renowned for its beauty, Cornwall is perhaps not so famous for its love of drum and bass but tonight The Eden Project, in the quiet little village of St Blazey, was the house of the second instalment of this years Eden Sessions.
Support tonight came in the form of American electronic music artist, Derek Vincent Smith, better known as ‘Pretty Lights’. Being slightly easy on the eye seemed to help his crowd precipitation from the start; revellers went wild for him as he shocked us all with his flawless and original material.
As he eased further into his set list it became obvious that this guy knew what he was doing, his talent let alone his ability to work a crowd was remarkable. The body popping started as did the air punching from the sea of hands in front of him and you could tell by the huge smile on this guy’s face, Cornwall’s reaction delighted him. Therefore, perhaps this man is a gift to dubstep/electronic music and deserves ridiculous hype in his own right. He will be filling audiences off his own back soon but he definitely deserved his support slot tonight.
Pendulum have wowed audiences worldwide and Cornwall was the place for their apparent ‘warm-up’ show for their performance at this years Glastonbury Festival. As Pendulum are known for their sickening bass lines and overwhelming live performances, it was obvious that tonight’s show was one not to be missed. It was clear to all who attended that tonight was no warm-up and without any doubt an exceptional headlining performance for both Pendulum and their audience was about to be unleashed.
Being late on stage did not seem to matter to fans; questionably because of the amount of alcohol that was flying about but like a bolt of lightning they entered the stage and smashed their opening track ‘Salt In The Wounds’.
As they pounded out their sound from the amazing sound-system in the venue there was such a warm and captivating atmosphere that surrounded the Eden Project. Every track they played the crowd went nuts for and the greed for more was apparent throughout; not one person in the entire vicinity wanted it to be over; such a brilliant experience to be apart of.
Highlights of the night being ‘Hold Your Colour’ classic ‘Slam’, along with new album delights such as ‘The Vulture’, ‘The Island I and II’ and ‘Set Me On Fire’; it was blatant that Pendulum set the space they played in on fire and if there was a roof they would of blown it clean off! Each track has its own individual signature of exception as they continue to play with utter perfection, as expected.
Overall, a fantastic show and it was prominent that the rest of the Eden Sessions that were taking place over the next few days had some competition. Tonight was a massacre of drum and bass madness and for many one of the best nights of their lives.
