Red is the new EP from Toodar, the five-piece from London’s Elephant and Castle. Red is to be released on 18th July 2011 and features Toodar’s single ‘Toy’ (simultaneously released with the EP). Sample below!
The video to ‘Toy’ was created by Toodar using a model railway track, a miniature camera and a room full of dusty instruments.
The journey of the Hornby train through the band and their instruments is captured from a toys’ perspective. The video brought toodar to the attention of bloggers, winning video of the year from IndieIndie and has subsequently been featured by PRS Magazine, Virgin Red Room, Record of the Day and BBC Introducing. ‘Toy’ has been remixed by Jamie Willcox (Pure Reason Revolution) and P*Nut & Leon Jean Marie.
Second single from the EP is “Ten Paces”. Having been remixed by 1xtra DJ and dub-step star True Tiger (winner of NME’s Floor Filler of the Year award) the track has already received support from BBC1xtra. The track also won Song of the Year 2010 award from EBM blog.
Originally the alias/ nick-name of front-man Tom Grundy (shortened from ‘too darn lazy’), toodar grew until the line-up was completed when engineer Isabel was drawn into performing live having co-produced the Red EP. Toodar’s music is well described as melodic live electronica with soaring vocals and two-step beats.
