Shape shifting orchestral ensemble The Bookhouse Boys have this week unveiled their new video, for the quite awesome ‘With You’ watch it below, it’s directed by Nick Wood, who recently served as Director of Photography on Radiohead’s ‘King Of Limbs’ video. The ‘With You’ single is released on June 13th, taken from the forthcoming album ‘Tales To Be Told’, released June 20th. ‘With You’ simmers with dark orchestral flourishes and vocals that take in Depeche Mode and Nick Cave and the Badseeds in a unruly showdown with P J Harvey.
Speaking of the video, vocalist Catherine Turner, says, “With You wasn’t originally a contender for single but it really came to life in the studio. As we were finishing the album we realised that it was a real favourite for all of us. Same when we started to play it live, maybe because its sleazy laziness can be a bit of relief amongst the harder faster sections of the set.
Once we’d decided we would be mad not to have it as a single, we enlisted director and friend Nick Wood in to come on board for the video. We toyed with a few different ideas but the general consensus was to make a video that matched the track in tenseness and ambiguity. Nick did an incredible job – DOP by day, he has an amazing eye for what will translate beautifully onto celluloid.”
The Bookhouse Boys evolve from unruly bar band to shape shifting orchestral ensemble. Mixed by Joe Barresi (Queens Of The Stone Age, Tool) and featuring Johnny Flynn on violin, Tales To Be Told is released on June 20th on Black Records.
The bare knuckled violence of their debut still cuts through on Guns Like Drums and Crazy Eyes, and the guitars rock heavier than ever on They Will Not Depart and Faded Roses, but elsewhere there is greater sensitivity and illicit tension, never more so than on the female fronted To Forgive and Fever Lullaby.
