Comprised of Stephanie Min (vocals), Jerome Watson (guitar), James Thomas (drums), Kelly Owens (bass and backing vocals) and Aslam Ghauri (guitar), London band The History of Apple Pie take a different approach to 1990s revivalism, recalling the sunshine gloss of Galaxie 500 and lo-fi wonderkid Helen Love.
Their songs may be inspired by lollipops and cardigans, but underneath their pristine shell you’ll find insecurity smothers their twee appeal back into reality. In my opinion, THOAP are all the better for it – in this twisted day and age, cynical lyrics strengthen the likelihood of success.
The band are due to announce details of their debut single soon, and are billed to play The Great Escape and Field Day following two notable performances at this year’s Camden Crawl.
