Preaching From the Pews: The Heartrates

theheart7The Heartrates have worked with legendary producer Pete Boxsta Martin, and his influence on their music is clear. A punching temp and candyfloss synth electrifies their music, but it’s the dual lyrics that draw the band apart from your average 1980s homage. Etched with the occasional bark, lead demo “Midnight Crisis” sounds more like Los Campesinos! on a rabid prowl through Reflex than it does Prince, whose drum beat The Heartrates have ‘borrowed’.

As yet allusive to the internet, the band plan to play two London dates in the coming month – dates below. Their debut will be released towards the end of 2011.

Saturday 9th July – Water Rats
Thursday 28th July – Underbelly
