Track of The Day #917: A Hundred Million – Master of the ship you painted

Every now and then a gem appears seemingly from nowhere, amidst the sea of PR emails a band casually tweets you about their awesome debut single, and knocks you clean off your feet.  On this occasion that band was mysterious Cardiff two piece A Hundred Million and that song was ‘Master of the ship you painted’. Ushered in by double barrel drum hits that fire off like

Ushered in by double barrel drum hits that fire off like an ever-shifting battalion of assault weapons, snaking keyboard lines slither across a bed of simmering guitars before the entire piece explodes into a crescendo its the glorious sound of an exploding shooting comet.  It’s like a forgotten studio cut from Joe Meek’s loft, laden with petrol and set on fire by gleeful whippersnappers.  Somehow familiar yet utterly refreshing, an unmissable and intriguing in equal measure we hope to learn more about A Hundred Million, but this is quite an astounding beginning.
