Oakland synthpop trio Introflirt release their new album Temporary Heaven today, which marks another evolution in their self-styled “croonwave” sound. Having already shared two singles, ‘Frozen Lace’ and ‘Orange Light,’ the band, who have drawn comparisons to Junior Boys and Majical Cloudz as well as 80s synthpop acts such as Soft Cell, are determined to break down perceptions about electronic music with candid lyrics about disappointment, and sexual liberation.
Vocalist and lyricist Ben Benjamin explained the background to first single ‘Frozen Lace’: “This came from the longing to rid myself of guilt and fear of consequences when approaching certain desires […] Growing up in a religious family – although my parents have pretty much been kicked out of every church they ever attended – installed many programs I’ve worked hard to disassemble.” This sense of disassembly is set to run through the album, which marries dark, often affecting lyrics with steelier electronics. Listen to ‘Frozen Lace’ below.
