Jordan Stephens is behind Wildhood. Before that, you might have seen him as one-half of cheeky-chappy duo Rizzle Kicks. Wildhood released an EP on the 16th March – titled Vert – and it’s pretty cool. And Double Dark – as with the other seven tracks on the EP – is incredibly brave, especially considering how much success Rizzle Kicks have enjoyed. Stephens seems to have a finger in every pie: successful pop career, actor and, judging by Vert, an experimental risk-taker. But it’s a risk worth taking.
There’s almost a bit of everything in it. There’s a little David Bowie, a little Nick Cave and something else that is hard to pin down. It’s dark, brooding, swirling with bass and effects, and vocals that come very close to crooning. The entire EP is an interesting listen, really, and best enjoyed in its entirety. What is clear is that Wildhood are onto something that could be amazing and are definitely something to at least keep one eye on in future.
