The Boxer Rebellion had signed to Alan McGee’s record label Poptones back in 2003. Since that imprint’s demise, though, the London-based four-piece have remained without a recording contract. Much of their fame rests on the fact that they are one of the most successful unsigned bands in musical history, a fact evinced by their second studio album, 2009’s Union, being the first self-released record to break into the US top 100 on digital sales alone.
The Boxer Rebellion are about to release their fifth long player, Ocean By Ocean, at the end of April. In eager anticipation of its arrival, the band have just unveiled the first single to be taken from it. As its title suggests, ‘Big Ideas’ is a huge song. Redefining The Boxer Rebellion blueprint of epic, anthemic rock into one massive orchestral sweep, ‘Big Ideas’ rests on an axis somewhere between those of The National and U2.
‘Big Ideas’ can be downloaded or streamed here
Ocean By Ocean will be released on April 29th. It is available for pre-order on all formats, including signed CD/LP.
